Our client is a Life and General Insurance Company, active in the Dutch Caribbean. For it's operations on Curaçao and Bonaire our client is looking for a Territory Head. In this senior management position, the Territorry Head is responsible for the overall operations.

Job Description

  • Ensures the company is operating efficiently and effectively per established management standards and agreed upon objectives;
  • Participates in corporate strategic initiatives;
  • Develops high performing teams through recruiting, selecting, training, coaching, guiding, and mentoring qualified individuals;
  • Participates in the development of employee training programs;
  • Reviews financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other critical performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement;
  • Identifies opportunities for cost reduction and streamlining of business processes and implements improvement initiatives;
  • Supervises the execution of corporate policies and procedures;
  • Ensures compliance with the contract terms of the insurance markets;
  • Monitors and maintains continuing education for self and staff;
  • Supports senior management decisions as they pertain to the operation of the brokerage;
  • Ensures compliance of both regulatory and internal guidelines to attain a high level of quality sales;
  • Create and modify procedures and documents related to policies;
  • Assist in claims management;
  • Identify and analyze risks associated with policies;
  • Minimize risk of financial loss;
  • Obtain and oversee company insurance or related funds that management uses to cover costs such as disability benefits or lawsuits;
  • Assist Claim Manager with inquiries on claims;
  • Preside over claims investigations;
  • Review insurance policies;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Managing Board.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Academic thinking level with at least 10 years of experience in the financial/insurance/banking industry;
  • Insurance qualified;
  • 5 years’ experience in underwriting or claims;
  • 5 years or more of management experience in a similar role;
  • Experience in sales and marketing is a plus;
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff;
  • Good interpersonal skills including ability to build relationships with key trading partners;
  • Good communication skills in English, Dutch and Papiamentu, both oral and written;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Confidentiality and diplomacy;
  • Organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
